See the links below for more information on the specific types of flat roofing solutions we provide:

  • Fibre Glass Roofing (GRP)

GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) Roofing is most commonly known as Fibre Glass Roofing, and if properly laid it will last for at least 50 years with no measurable deterioration. This has to be laid this in dry conditions normally onto dry deck (OSB boards are our choice of materials) and not below 5 °C. We advise the roof is completely stripped and new interlocking deck boards are laid with 25mm gap where flat roof may meet any walls (this is for any expansion).

Trimming is installed – GRP trims are installed but it is important that they are the correct trim for the right job. For example raised edge trim where you want no water to fall (over the edge) and a drip edge trim where you you have (or intend to have) gutters. Trims come in all shapes and sizes and include corners: both external and internal.

Laminating – Laying the matting and resin can be a tricky task. It is important to get a nice smooth finish and have little or no interdependencies. A catalyst is used to start the chemical process of hardening the solution. A correct ratio must be added and you should use the suppliers instructions as to the amounts. A good roofer will be able to “guestimate” this and change it according to temperate and weather conditions. Once this has “gone off”, meaning it has hardened you will have a waterproof barrier, It can be sanded down afterwards to get a smooth finish. Times will vary dependant on weather conditions/temperature as to the curing time. If it feels hard to touch and not tacky you will have achieved the desired state before the next step can be started.

Top Coating – The final part maybe (unless flashings and gutters etc are needed) is the finishing coat. Dependant on the size of the roof  and again weather temperatures you will need to mix components accordingly. Generally brushes and rollers are used to apply the resins. The finishing coat can come in a number of different colours including blue, grey and green.

  • Rubber Roofing EPDM

A relatively new trend and deemed as a “greener” alternative to some flat roofing products– you can imagine rubber roofs are becoming ever-more popular. It requires very little maintenance or upkeep and it is very long lasting. Rubber can of course move/stretch with the timber foundations in hot and cold weather conditions too.

It is laid in prefabricated “seamless” sheets and it has many features including being fire resistant.

  • Kemper / Kemperol

Kemper is one of the most innovative flat roofing solutions to date. It is acclaimed to be the first liquid roofing solution, laid wet on wet with a reinforced fleece membrane.

It is none the less proven to last in excess of 50 years and it has been used on buildings across the world including:

  • Felt Roofing

Felt Roofing can come in a number of different styles and essentially laid in a number of different ways. You commonly associate felt roofs with shed roofs but this is evermore changing. A life expectancy of 15 to 30 years can be achieved and indeed is expected. Ways of laying felt roofs are bitumen based products which are normally heated up with a gas gun and torch or it can be and poured on.

It is essential a good underlay is used and we make sure the roof has the correct gradient so that water runs off effectively.

    10 year felt guarantee

Unless instructed otherwise we only use high quality technotorch high performance felt, which comes with a 10 year guarantee and a life expectancy of 30 years.
