Chimney flaunching is basically the bedded mortar work that sits on top of your chimney stack and importantly holds your pots on top safely. It should cover any flues so no water can escape down and be crack free. Access and safety are a very important factor when replacing the flaunching and should not be attempted by a novice. Always seek a professional roofer.
Always remove all old flaunching and replace with new from the stack up… and be wary of a cheap fix by “going over” the old flaunching – know in the trade as ‘buttering up’. this will not last and you will no doubt have to have it done properly within 12 – 24 months.
I could see my chimney pots wobbling about in the strong wind, so I called Red Stag Roofing and they came out and repaired my chimney the very same day. My pots must be 3 feet tall and this could have been very dangerous. Needless to say I am very grateful. And what a polite bunch of gentlemen. x Mrs. Clapham – Offerton
Thanks again Dan & Dom – both myself and Mr Ingram are chuffed with the new chimney.
